Tips for better prompts
Vague prompts produce vague results. Instead of "write an email," try "write a professional follow-up email to a client after a product demo, friendly but concise, under 150 words." The more context you provide, the more targeted the output.
AI models default to a middle ground unless directed otherwise. Always specify: the format (bullet list, paragraph, numbered steps), the target length (50 words, 3 paragraphs), and the tone (formal, casual, humorous, technical). These three parameters dramatically improve output relevance.
Assigning a role to the AI dramatically changes its output quality. "Act as a senior software architect with 15 years of experience" produces different, usually better results than asking the same question with no role context assigned.
Midjourney and DALL-E weight the beginning of a prompt more heavily. Put your primary subject first, then add style, lighting, camera angle, and artist reference. Example: "A lone samurai on a cliff at dusk, cinematic lighting, oil painting style, 8K."
For complex tasks, break work into a chain of prompts rather than trying to do everything in one. First generate a structure, then use a follow-up prompt to expand each section. This approach produces dramatically better long-form output.
Stable Diffusion and Midjourney v6+ support negative prompts — things you explicitly don't want. Adding "no blur, watermark, text, distorted hands, low quality" to your image prompts significantly cleans up outputs and removes common AI artifacts.
